West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal said the provincial government will declare a drought emergency. He spoke in Mataram on 14 October 2026. "We will set the emergency condition this week," he said. The decision follows coordination with the provincial disaster agency (BPBD), Mount Rinjani National Park and BMKG.

Weather modification still under review

The province is also discussing a weather-modification operation with BMKG and the national disaster agency (BNPB). The option has not been decided because it requires enough cloud cover, and no target has been set.

Rain outlook

BMKG expects the rainy season in NTB to begin from late November to early December, with high intensity that could trigger flooding. Residents are asked to clean drains, channels and rivers before the rain arrives.
